You have probably heard all about surveys as a way to make cash on the side. But have you heard of Prolific Surveys?
And are they really worth your time?
I have tried a few different surveys through the years, and Prolific surveys are one of the easiest and smoothest services I’ve used.
It’s easy to use, only takes minutes, and your cash reward is put into your PayPal account once you hit the £5 threshold. Nice.
But…What are Prolific Surveys?
Prolific is a platform that helps researchers recruit participants for their online research.
They enable high-quality data collection by connecting diverse people around the world while offering CASH to participants who fill out their questionaires (that’s you and me!)
How am I helping the world become a better place by using Prolific Surveys?
Well, for starters, this site is used by genuine researchers from top universities and companies all around the world.
Your answers will provide data to help make big decisions across their field of study.
Whether your data is used to encourage environmentally sustainable behavior or help improve the creative sector, your answers are used for good.
From individuals to businesses to governments – Prolific helps facilitate world-changing research.
And you get paid for it too. What’s not to like?
Ok, I’m sold. How do I set up an account?
You can easily set up your account in minutes:
SIGN UP THROUGH THE PROLIFIC WEBSITE HERE.
You will need:
- A valid email address
- Mobile number, to verify its really you!
- I.D. such as a Driving license or Passport.
I set up my Prolific account years ago, and I don’t recall having any difficulties at all setting it up.
It was easy, straight forward and once verified I could start on these surveys.
Can anyone use Prolific Surveys?
If you are over 18 and live in this list of countries you can take part in a Prolific Survey, and get paid too.
The UK, America, Australia are all included in this list, as well as the majority of European countries.
So more likely than not, you can join up too!
Is it free to join Prolific Surveys?
Yes of course.
It’s absolutely free to set up your Prolific Survey account, in fact, they pay you to participate.
Cool, I’ve just joined. But why are there are no surveys when I log in?
Sometimes there are no surveys waiting for you, as they can disappear quickly as people snatch them up!
There are only a certain amount of participants that can partake in each survey.
As the researcher has to pay for these, so they are usually capped at a few hundred people, or more depending on their budget!
However, there is an easier way to make sure you get onto these prolific surveys, rather than checking the site every two minutes.
I used to always miss out on surveys, before I learnt this trick.
You need to download the Prolific Assistant Chrome Extension.
This will be your best friend.
This Chrome Extension will notify you (in a funky robotic voice!) when a new survey pops up on the website.
The trick is to be logged in to Prolific Surveys on Chrome, in the background, while at work, or whenever you are at your laptop.
If a survey comes available, you will get notified within seconds, and you can be one of the first people to get on the survey, and get that cashhh!
How much money can I make with Prolific Surveys?
The million dollar question!
I can safely say you won’t make a million dollars anytime soon from doing prolific surveys, unfortunately.
You can’t rely on Prolific Surveys to make consistent money, or to replace your full-time job.
But you can make extra side hustle money through filling in easy surveys questions.
Each survey is different, in how much they offer to pay you.
Speaking from a UK perspective, they usually range between £0.30p to £2.00+ per survey.
It may seem like tiny amounts of money, I hear you scream. But these surveys only take mere minutes to fill in.
For example, the most recent survey I did paid just £0.38p but it only took 3 minutes to do.
This works out as £7.60 per hour.
This is much less than minimum wage but I was able to easily complete it while sipping a cup of tea and listening to music!
It’s useful if you have spare time at home, and a mobile or laptop on hand.
So if you get to do 4 surveys a day at £0.38p, that’s about £40 a month.
You won’t become rich but it’s nice pocket money.
What will I do with my extra pocket money from prolific surveys?
Your new spare change could get you a new pair of shoes each month…
Or you can get multiple shoes for that if you know about my cheap top brands shoe hack here!
(Converse for £15? Yes, please.)
Or if you are lucky to get higher-paid surveys, which does happen, you can get at least £50 a month, all in your spare time.
I have heard people who make much more than this.
But even if you were to make £40 a month starting off, that’s better than zero pounds and zero pence from just watching TV.
I personally always use my side income money to put into my investments through Vanguard.
For example, If you were to invest this £40 every month for 10 years at 7% return, you would turn it into almost £7,000.
This example is all from 1 hour of survey work each week.
Now that is nothing to be sniffed at!
If you are new to investing and what to learn how to set up your Vanguard account in 10 minutes, read my recent blog post here for the step by steps on how to get started.
Every Pound/Dollar or Euro can help build a better future for yourself.
How do I get paid from Prolific Surveys?
Once you do enough surveys to get to £5, you can then release this money into your PayPal account.
The reward for completing a prolific survey is MONEY, not as vouchers or anything else.
That’s why I like this platform.
As some other sites only let you release money once you’re over £10 too.
But, on this Prolific Survey site, you can get your money once you’ve earned £5.
Make sure to have already set up or already have a Paypal account before applying to Prolific Surveys.
How much time do the surveys take?
Each survey is different, as they are run by different researchers from around the world.
I recently got a survey from a University in Poland about robots, while sitting here in London. (No, really.)
The content can be quite interesting, and easy peasy to complete.
The Prolific Surveys can take anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes to complete.
Each Survey will tell you how long they will take, before you start them.
The longer the survey, the more money you are likely to get to complete it.
I have found the most common surveys I get are 5 minutes long.
If a prolific survey pops up and is too long for you, you don’t have to do it.
It’s totally up to you.
What kind of content are in the Surveys?
There are all different types.
They usually ask your opinion on a topic, on a scale from “Agree” to “Disagree”.
I’ve had scientific-based questions to questions about how I feel about an Italian restaurant.
Also, they will disclose if any content may be sensitive to some people.
For example, in a Robot study I did, they declared at the start how the images may freak some participants out.
And you don’t have to complete this survey if you are sensitive to these types of images.
(They weren’t even scary to be honest, just a little weird lifelike robot picture!)
Any survey you don’t complete or fail to complete all of it, you won’t get paid for.
How often can I use Prolific Surveys?
As often as you like!
If you are quick enough to start one when it becomes live, you can do as many as you want.
There is a limit, usually, to the amount of people who can participate in a survey.
So I’d definitely recommend downloading the Prolific Survey Chrome Extension which will notify you as soon as a survey pops up!
Happy Surveying!
